Key Organisations
Nanotechnology Groups and Organisations in the UK
Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE)
Professional Network in Microsystems and Nanotechnology dedicated to the transfer of knowledge of micro/nanotechnology (MNT) between academia and industry.
Institute of Materials, Metallurgy and Mining (IOM3) – Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology committee.
The Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology Committee seeks to promote the understanding and active research in nanomaterials and nanotechnology.
Institute of Nanotechnology (IoN)
IoN works with governments, universities, researchers, companies and the general public to educate and inform on all aspects of nanotechnology. It is also an organizer of international scientific events, conferences and educational courses that examine the implications of nanotechnology.
Institute of Physics – the journal ‘Nanotechnology’.
This journal encompasses the understanding of the fundamental physics, chemistry, biology and technology of nanometre-scale objects and how such objects can be used in the areas of computation, sensors, nanostructured materials and nano-biotechnology.
Nanoforum is a pan European nanotechnology network originally funded by the European Commission through FP5.
National Physical Laboratory (NPL) - Centre for Nanometrology.
NPL is currently engaged in research to improve metrology at the nano metre level which builds on a number of instruments previously developed at NPL which were designed for measuring surface texture and form with traceability to the metre.
Nanotechnology Issues Dialogue Group (NIDG)
The Nanotechnology Issues Dialogue Group (NIDG), chaired by Go – Science, is enabling the responsible development of nanotechnologies and co-ordinating the activities described in the Government's response on nanotechnologies across departments, agencies and Research Councils
The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (Nanotechnology KTN)
The Nanotechnology KTN facilitates the transfer of knowledge and experience between industry and research, offering companies dealing in small-scale technology access to information on new processes, patents and funding as well as keeping up-to-date with industry regulation.
The Nanotechnology Research Coordination Group (NRCG)
The NRCG was set up to coordinate publicly funded research into the potential risks presented by the products and applications of nanotechnologies. There is on going stakeholder involvement in the work of the NRCG through the Nanotechnologies Stakeholder Forum.
